5 Scenic Restaurants and Bars in Kwa Zulu-Natal

Kwa Zulu-Natal is infamous for its sea and mountain views. They’re postcard worthy and enjoying a meal at with an amazing scenery is something all of us love to do! I’ve compiled a small list of wonderful restaurants/bars with breathtaking views as well as scrumptious food!

The Panorama Bar and Pool Deck

Located at the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel, the Panorama Bar boasts uninterrupted views of Durban’s Beachfront.  Seated on the pool deck, under a canopy of shade, sipping on a delicious cocktail is one of my favourite pastimes in Durban! Their café-bar style menu includes burgers and pizzas, sandwiches and snack buckets, cheese plates and the infamous Durban Bunny. Perfect for lunch dates and intimate light-dinner dates.

Cargo Hold

Dining with sharks? Hell yeah! This is an amazing experience if you don’t mind having unusual guests in a tank next to you while you enjoy a scrumptious meal! You could also opt to have sea views of the Ushaka Beach on the other side of the restaurant. Cargo Hold’s menu features tastes from all over the world such as spicy and fruity combined with local ingredients!

Leopard Rock Coffee Shop

Taking you out to our mountainous countryside, Leopard Rock Coffee Shop offers a very rustic, earthy environment for you to enjoy. It is located on a rocky incline overlooking the grand Umzimkulu River Gorge. The wonderfully made, home-cooked meals vary from curries and rice, quiches, sandwiches, breakfasts and salads to cakes! You also have options to enjoy the garden and surrounding area with activities, walks and attractions (noted to be a bird lover’s paradise!)

Roma Revolving

Opened in 1973, this restaurant is legendary for boasting 360° views of Durban CBD, surrounding areas as well as the harbour. The restaurant takes approximately and hour and a half to complete one revolution – perfect timing to enjoy a fabulous Italian meal or indulge in continental dishes, seafood, fresh game dishes and delectable desserts. There is also the Roma Skyy Bar from which you can enjoy the views from the 33rd Floor!

  1. WOW these are some pretty extravagant and luxurious and beautiful spots!!! The revolving restaurant reminds me of the revolving restaurant in our CN tower in Toronto – such a cool experience. I think I’d like to visit Leopard Rock Coffee shop the most!

  2. I lived in Durban for a while in the 80’s. In those days the Roma was called the Revolting Roma. I am amazed to see that it is still around. Obviously, the quality of the food must have improved a million percent. The views on the other hand are spectacular 🙂

    1. I’ve been recently and though it’s still under the same ownership, the food is great! I think there definitely is a new chef!
