What is your earliest travel memory?
It would have to be my first school holiday; I was only 5 years old. It was the Easter break and our family went to Swaziland including my grandparents. My dad was so excited about me going to school and felt a holiday was the perfect way to celebrate this milestone in my life.
Have you ever cried at the airport?
YES, on my first trip to London on my own, I sobbed my eyes out for literally 2 hours on the flight until the lil girl next to me gave me a chocolate to make me feel better. I cried because I was leaving everything and everyone I new to start life on my own in a new country.
I still get all teary at airports even when loved ones leave or return. Guess it my emotional genes kicking in as I hate saying goodbye as there is always a chance it might be for the last time.
What’s your travel style?
I go for smart casual and comfortable. Generally denim jeggins, a non crease top ,a cotton scarf and a cardigan. And yes a bit of makeup and my hair done.
What is your favourite city?
Totally totally madly addicted to London. It was the city I lived on my own for almost ten years and literally did my growing up. The city is so vibrant with so much to eat, see and do. Not forgetting how easy it is to travel to the rest of the world from London.
What is the weirdest thing you carry while travelling?
A few wooden pegs and plastic bags. The pegs are for drying my clothes things like socks and underwear and the plastic bags are for dirty laundry that need proper washing.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done on holiday?
Loads actually camped in the Western Ghats of India, slept on the streets of Wimbledon for tickets to the tennis and considering how OCD I am about street food and cleanliness I had Chai in the streets of Kerala.
What do you collect when travelling?
Magnets defo, spices and now jewellery.
Which is your favourite international meal?
Way too many to pick but would be Arabic food.
What do you miss most about home when you travel?
My family and my furkids.
How does travel make you feel?
Makes me feel alive and filled with gratitude and in awe of the beautiful world we live in.
Where is the best party scene?
London the night life is buzzing and people are always out and about next would be Dubai the city that never sleeps.
Favourite travel related book?
Holy Cow by Sarah Macdonald
Worst piece of travel advice you’ve received?
Carry non perishable food items with you to me the best part of travelling is learning, exploring and eating local food. Besides the space the food takes up it can get damaged in your bags.
What’s your ritual when you get to a new destination?
Firstly I shower and change before heading into shower I put devices to charge.
Then I quickly read any info in room to familiarize myself with fire escapes, hotel amenities and services. Then a bottle of water and a Cal-C-Vita for energy before I pack a bag and head out to explore the place On my way out I also chat to the staff at hotel on dos and don’ts and pick a business card of the hotel just incase I get lost and cant communicate with the locals.
